I have just spent 3 days at Arundel Castle on the south coast, photographing Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the British Shakespeare Company. As the light changes from dusk to complete darkness, I photographed from a distance, out of sight of the audience and without the use of flashlight. The actors are absolutely brilliant, as it’s a privilege to be involved.

I am very conscious that this blog that was supposed to be about graphic design has become a photography blog. I have been working on a number of literature projects that I cannot display here. Anyway to show that I do actually still design things, here is a theatre programme that has just gone off to print (above), and a small leaflet for Olivers Lighting Company, to be displayed in local shop and pub leaflet dispensers.

It’s supposed to be the height of summer, but it’s rained for most of the week. However friday see a change and I escape for a couple of hours into local fields. Top photo is a little Skipper – they are about 15mm in length, and have 4 wings. Female orange tip butterfly is next, but it’s only the male that has orange on it. Then redchaser and finally a Peacock butterfly.

Chris Rose at Adventure Wedding Photography asked me to assist as a wedding photograper on Saturday and I jumped at the chance. I ended up with a dozen or so decent photos but Chris left me standing. He took 1,000 shots and most of them looked good to me. It takes a certain sort of personality to boss people around in a friendly way and it’s not me. But it was a fun day and here are 2 of my shots. The picture I like the most is the exhausted father patiently waiting whilst the official photos are taken.

I wanted to return to the Yorkshire Coast again, and so I set off at 2.30am in order to get there before sunrise. This is the first shot I took on arrival at Spurn Head at 4.20am, this morning (click on the image to view a larger version). The shot below is taken through a hole in one of the many groynes, but I think the foreground needs to be more in focus.

A weekend off and plenty of time to enjoy the summer. The skies are full of Red Kites, and I count 9 soaring over a wheat field at one stage. I see my first Comma this year and a male Common Chaser (top) for the first time ever.

Everyone who knows me knows that I am an Apple man through and through. However, Dell’s latest range of computers has blown me away. Dell have clearly been investing in great product design with the Studio Hybrid range. There are 6 colour options and even a bamboo finished version. Would you buy one?
