DESIGN WORK

It been a long week which started with my hard drive failing on Sunday morning a week ago. It took a further 2 days for a new drive to be installed and all of my fonts, software programmes and work to be reinstalled. Anyway it’s business as usual now and thank goodness for backups!

So I have been up at 4.30am each day trying to catch up. The weekend was spent at my desk but it was the usual bank holiday weather so I don’t feel too bad. One of the jobs now at print is the Programme for GB Theatre Company, just in time for the start of their tour next week. I will be in Dublin photographing the shows this time next week. Will have to sample a Guinness or three!

It’s been busy the last few weeks with several new websites underway (to be launched soon) and a couple of corporate identity projects. Standinwave is a start-up business in the specialist field of high tech electronics. A number of designs were explored including one where the electronic waves create an ‘s’.

Today sees the launch of a new theatre company - GB Theatre Company. I have been working on the branding, website and venue leaflets throughout February and March.

Another busy week and several theatre projects on the go, including a poster for Strictly Musicals starring some of the talented young stars in London’s West End musicals. I did once spend a May Bank holiday designing Christmas selection packs, but not for the coming Christmas is was for the year after!

The Stage are going to print an article on thursday, so I need a branding and a website in 2 days….” went the conversation. Dame Judi Dench has donated the film set that was used in Shakespeare In Love to the British Shakespeare Company and the news quickly attracted attention from press worldwide. The website will receive a lot of refinement and additional information in the coming weeks but at least it was there for all to see.

There seem to be very few people actually manufacturing products in the UK these days, so it was a pleasure to create a new website for Penistone Reinforcements in Sheffield. I wanted their website to portray them as a substantial, long-established, professional and highly successful wire-manufacturing business.

It’s been 6 weeks since my last posting but all is well and I have just been very very busy.

I have spent much of this summer photographing the British Shakespeare Company’s shows in Cheshire, Norfolk, Leeds, Sheffield, Arundel and also a weekend in Prague. You can see the shots on the BSC gallery pages.

Meeting the BSC cast each year is a wonderful experience. Half are ‘regulars’ and it’s like meeting up with old friends. All are hugely talented and I sit there watching them perform their magic on stage and I am so proud to be involved.

A number of other client sites have been updated during August including the photographs on the Sea Events website.

The next few days will see the launch of several new corporate identities and websites.

I have spent the last week designing banners and organising printing for several clients. Finer Catering required menus, price lists and banners for the Driffield Show, and the British Shakespeare Company needed banners for Leeds and Sheffield. But next week it’s back to designing websites with several new sites underway.

I spent last night photographing A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Gawsworth Hall near Macclesfield. Technically it was quite difficult in the fading evening light and unable to use flash as this was a live show. A long drive back before processing 120 images and adding them to the British Shakespeare Company website at 2am this morning. See Photo Gallery for more shots.

reaposter_small2.jpg It’s been a busy week designing leaflets for the British Shakespeare Company’s tour of the UK, Dublin, Norway and Prague.

New cast members were still be added at 7pm last night (thursday) before being printed by those splendid chaps at Technoprint in Leeds overnight and delivered to London on monday morning. It’s a project that has allowed me to use some of my photographs taken at Arundel Castle last year.

Wednesday saw the press launch of the Dublin Shakespeare Festival with actor Stephen Rea. The illustration on the poster is one I had fun creating last week using PhotoShop. The weekend is going to be spent designing posters and they will be all over London by tuesday.
